Dr. Stephen C. Nash, Sr. was born in Phoenix, Arizona on June 10, 1950 to Thomas and Betty Jean Nash. He grew up in Muskogee, Oklahoma, where he received his elementary and high school education. Graduating from Manual Training High School in 1968, he left Muskogee to attend Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma where he majored in Vocal Music. In 1969, he transferred to Bishop College and majored in Religion and Philosophy, graduating in 1974 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. He earned double Masters of Arts Degrees in Biblical Studies and Divinity in 1990 from Aspen Theological Seminary in Aurora, Colorado. He earned a Masters of Arts in Religious Education, 1991 and his Doctor of Philosophy Degree (Ph. D.) in Urban Ministries in 1991 and his Doctor of Philosophy Degree (Ph. D.) in Christian Education in 1993. Both degrees were earned from Aspen Theological Seminary in Aurora, Colorado. Dr. Nash earned a third Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Christian Counseling from Survine Ministries Bible College and Theological Seminary, Aurora, Colorado in 1993. He has one Honorary degree, Doctor of Divinity (D.D.) from Aspen Theological Seminary, 1991.
Dr. Nash has more than forty years of pastoral experience, having served the Samaria Baptist Church-Van Alstyne, TX; Good Hope Baptist Church – McKinney, TX; Jerusalem Baptist Church– Marshall, TX; and New Hope Baptist Church – Lubbock, TX; and pastored the Mt. Tabor Baptist Church of Dallas, TX for 32 years. Dr. Nash has authored several books. His first book entitled, A Stewardship Primer (textbook for the National Baptist Convention USA, Inc. Department of Christian Education, course #206 for all levels) was published in 1988. Ebony On The Scene, his second book was published in 1989. His third book, The Black Man’s Place In The Son, published in 1990 was followed in 1991 by book four, A Major Entrustment: A Follow-up In Christian Stewardship As Related To Church Leadership. The fifth book is Positives From The Black Corner. His book, The First Church: Black, was completed and published in the summer of 2000. His most current books, The Call Back: God First-An Old Testament Treaty Volume I and A New Testament Treaty-Volume II was published in 2004. He is currently working on the publication of three other books: The High Call of Caring, The Answer Is In The Book and How The Church Must Act. Offices Currently Held: Dr. Nash is CEO and President of SCN Ministries, Inc.; Former President of the Interdenominational Ministers’ Alliance (IMA) of Greater Dallas; Former President at Large of the Baptist Missionary and Education (B.M. & E.) State Convention of Texas; Moderator of the Northwestern District Association; Parlmentarian of Dallas Black Chamber of Commerce; Chairman of the Board of Directors of the AF-AM Corporation (SCOR Brand Athletic Shoes), Chairman of the Board of Education of the Council on Domestic Violence, Board Member of the Advisory of the Gerontology at Eastfield College, Dallas, Texas; President of the State of Texas Inter-Denominational Ministers’ Alliance; Lecturer, Black Studies Division, National Baptist Congress of Christian Education; Writer for the National Baptist Study Guide, National Baptist Congress of Christian Education. On July 18, 2007 he was elected President of the Baptist Missionary &Education Convention of Texas. In 2015, he was appointed to the executive committee of the National Baptist Convention. Past Honors and Achievements: Member of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship Coordination Council; Editor-In-Chief of The Voice, the official newspaper of the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc.; the 1988 recipient of the George Woods’ Civil Rights Award, presented by the Lubbock NAACP, recognized as “Minister of the Day” for Texas State Congress, 1994; named “Minister of the Year” for the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex awarded by KGGR gospel radio station, 1994; a 2001 inductee into Elite News Religious Leaders Hall of Fame, and named Minister of the Year, presented by the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance, 2003. On June 2, 2007, he received an Honorary Ph.D. in Theology from Vision International University in Ramon, CA. Also in 2007, he was recognized by the State of Texas House of Representatives as the recipient of the Outstanding Texan Award by the Texas Legislative Black Caucus. He has received numerous other certificates, recognitions, awards and has much more to offer to the ministry in years to come.
Family: Dr. Nash is the father of two: Angela and Stephen, Jr. "Chuck" (Fran'gee). He is the grandfather of six (Joshua, Jaelah, Stephen III, Jadan, Saelah, and Justus).
